AES Jordan Solar B.V., subsidiary of AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. through a jointly established project company, signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (“PPA”) with the National Electric Power Company of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (“NEPCO”) on April 26th, 2017 for a new solar park with a capacity 51.9 MWp (DC).
State of art monocrystalline panels will be installed for the solar park, making it the most advanced PV technology used in Jordan. The park, located east of Amman, will produce one of the lowest-price renewable energy in the country. AES Corporation and Mitsui & Co of Japan are already partners in The Amman East Power Plant (IPP1 project) and the AES Levant Power Plant (IPP4 project).
Following the commissioning of the new PV facility, AES & Mitsui consortium will have an aggregate of 700 MW installed capacity in Jordan, which will represent approximately 18% of the country’s installed capacity. The ne PV facility will help the implementation of the energy sector strategy of Jordan to reshape towards green technologies, and it is in aligned with Jordan Electricity Master Plan of 2020.
The Project is expected to create about 300 jobs during the construction phase. The solar park will be located approximately 2,5 km. from existing AES facilities and will be built on a 500,000 m2 of land.
